rem1718Today, November 10th, we held our Remembrance Service to which Year 6 parents were invited. The Year 6 children conducted the entire service, reciting their own poetry inspired by the famous poem 'In Flanders Fields' by John Mc Crae. They studied the poem, focusing on the human tragedy and most importantly, the burning desire not to forget. They used powerful, emotive imagery to paint a clear picture of the horrors of war, and repetition to reinforce the message. The children sang 'Abide with Me' and 'Make me a Channel of your Peace' – their sweet, serene voices brought many a tear to our eyes. This was followed by an exquisite and heart wrenching rendition of the Last Post by our talented trumpet player, William (Year 6). Each class in the school, from Nursery to Year 6, made a poppy wreath that they laid under the tree, followed by prayers to remember those who have lost their lives for our freedom today and haunting renditions of Jerusalem, the Last Post and Reveille. The occasion was truly moving and demonstrated the understanding that Year 6 have for the event. Thank you to all of the parents, governors and visitors who attended.
