france2018 frontOur Year 6 children enjoyed a sunny, fun filled week in Normandy. After a long and tiring coach journey they arrived on time to devour for a hearty turkey dinner before unpacking. They woke to beautiful sunshine each morning and feasted on croissants and hot chocolate, ready for the morning activities. Canoe, mud assault course and aeroball were particular treats on the second morning. The afternoon sessions comprised photography and circus skills, bread making and French lessons.

Their first outing was to Villedieu market. With euros in hand, the children used their growing language skills to barter for their goodies: sweets, hats and gifts for home. After a picnic lunch, the afternoon presented yet more activities including climbing, archery, circus skills and more canoeing.

Wednesday evening involved a treasure hunt, (in French) and the much anticipated French evening, complete with the optional delicacy – les escargots! The children then left for the D-Day beaches on Thursday and a visit to the 360 cinema in Arromanches to view for a moving film amount the D-Day landings and the end of WW2. They watched and listened intently to the story about the liberation of France. From there, they headed to the American War Cemetery at Coleville Sur Mer, where they showed enormous respect and asked thoughtful questions. Back at the chateau, a BBQ was consumed, followed by a talent show, which highlighted our Kew College talent! We won many awards during the evening!

It's Friday and the last day of activities. Year 6 was a wonderful group of children to take to France. They embraced the culture and language of the country, and have improved their own language skills. They were respectful and charming at all times. Well done Year 6!
