How to register your child at Kew College

Kew College is a non-selective, family-oriented, co-educational, independent school for children from 3 to 11 years of age. It is advisable to register your child for entry to Nursery as soon as possible. You may register your child from birth. Registered siblings are given priority. Non-registered siblings cannot be guaranteed a place in the school. Priority is also given to children of former Kew College pupils. Being registered does not guarantee a place at Kew College.

We have two Nursery classes, one in the morning and one in the afternoon – known respectively as Nursery Red and Nursery Yellow.

We hold Open Mornings in June and September for parents of children registered to start in the Nursery the following calendar year. These Open Mornings are part of the admissions process and it is important that you attend one of these events. Parents may visit the school at other times by arrangement with the Registrar.

Places are offered in the Autumn term in the year prior to entry. Once offers are made, we require a deposit equal to half of the termly fees for the main school to secure a place. The deposit is reimbursed when your child leaves Year 6.

If you wish to apply to register your child at Kew College, complete our online Registration Form. All applications should include a Registration Fee of £75 per child payable to Kew College (non-refundable). If you wish to pay by bank transfer, details will be sent after you submit the form. If you have any queries, please contact the Registrar who can also provide further information about Kew College (see Contact Us for address details).

Kew College is inspected regularly by the Independent Schools Inspectorate

Focused Compliance and Educational Quality Inspection Report October 2019

Our recent ISI inspection covered a Focused Compliance Inspection and an Educational Quality Inspection. The latter focuses on two key outcomes:

- The achievement of the pupils including their academic development and
- The personal development of the pupils

The school was deemed to be compliant, having met all of the Independent Schools Standards.

The quality of the pupils' academic and other achievements is good. As part of the key findings, the inspectors reported that:

• Pupils are articulate and communicate confidently with peers and adults alike in a variety of contexts. They use extensive vocabulary and technical language in all subject areas.
• Pupils have excellent attitudes to learning and work independently and collaboratively when solving problems.
• All pupils achieve excellent levels of numeracy.

The quality of the pupils' personal development is excellent. As part of their key findings, the inspectors reported that:

• Pupils have excellent levels of self-understanding and an objective appreciation of their abilities.
• They work with maturity and self-discipline and display resilience in a wide range of areas.
• Pupils have excellent moral and social awareness.
• Pupils show high levels of sensitivity and tolerance, respecting the opinions, values and traditions of others.

Regulatory Compliance Inspection November 2016

A Regulatory Compliance Inspection reports only on the school's compliance with the Independent Schools Standards. The school was deemed to have met all of the Independent Schools Standards and there were no action points. This is an excellent outcome for the school.

Q. How soon should I register my child?

A. As soon as possible after birth.

Q. Should I register at other schools or does registering at other schools prejudice the application?
A. We encourage you to register for other schools. It is important to have other options as Kew College is a popular choice and we cannot guarantee a place.

Q. Is there a registration fee and is it refundable?
A. The registration fee is £75, which is non-refundable.

Q. Do we have to live in a certain area or within a certain distance from school to be eligible to register?
A. We do not have a 'catchment' area, but we encourage parents to think about how far they should travel with small children. In addition, as parking space is limited in the roads around the school and if you are considering driving, you may have to park some distance from school and walk.

Q. Do you require a child to be assessed or take a test to gain a place?
A. We are a non-selective school for entry to Nursery. For occasional places further up the school we carry out an assessment to ascertain a child's level of ability and parents are required to meet the Head.

Q. Does the school have any religious affiliations?
A. We are a non-denominational school.

Q. Do you require a deposit to secure a place?
A. We ask for a deposit of 50% of main school fees (current fees at the time the offer is made). The deposit is returned when your child leaves the school.

Q. At what age can children join Kew College?
A. Our main intake is into Nursery when children are three years old. We have one intake in September each year. Older children start in the school when occasional places become available.

Q. How many children do you take into Nursery?
A. We have 40 places for Nursery each year. There are two Nursery classes with 20 children per class.

Q. Is the Nursery full-time and does it offer extended care into the evening for working parents?
A. The Nursery is part-time; there is a morning session, known as Nursery Red, which runs from 8.30am to 11.30am and an afternoon session, known as Nursery Yellow, which runs from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Both Nursery classes are Monday to Friday in term time. We do not offer after hours care for EYFS children. A child may only attend one Nursery class.

Q. Can I defer an offer for the Nursery to Kindergarten in the next academic year?
A. If a place in Nursery is offered and rejected, there is no guarantee that there will be a place in Kindergarten the following year. Your child may go on a waiting list for a possible place in Kindergarten; Kindergarten places are dependent on pupils leaving the school.

Q. If one of my children is offered a place, will their siblings be able to come to the school?
A. Siblings are given priority for places in the school, subject to availability.

Q. Do you have after school clubs?
A. There is a wide range of after school clubs; typically they run from 3.30pm to 4.30pm each day. From October 2020 we will be offering after school club run by Energy Kidz that runs until 6pm.

Q. Do you offer hot school lunches?
A. Children bring packed lunches to school each day and a mid-morning snack. We encourage children to eat healthily. Nursery children bring a mid-session snack. We are a nut, pineapple and kiwi -free school due to severe allergies within the school community.

The following school fees are per term and include all non-residential outings. These fees are applicable from September 2022.

Nursery (half-day) £2,690

Kindergarten to Year 6 £4,725

Termly fees are payable by the first day of term.

One term's notice is required for withdrawal of a pupil from the school, failing this, one term's fees will be payable in lieu. Parents should make an appointment to notify the Head as early as possible when they know that they will be withdrawing their child from the school. Formal notification should then be given in writing. Where details for leaving Kew College are uncertain, parents should contact the Registrar to discuss how formal notice is to be given.

Music and LAMDA Lessons

Instrument lessons are available at Kew College from Visiting Music Teachers and LAMDA lessons are available from Mance Productions. Please ask at the Office for more information.

Prices are set by the teachers, and invoiced by them. The Teachers require a minimum notice in writing of at least half a term prior to the cancellation of lessons, but please refer to the terms and conditions set by each teacher.
