Year 6 have had the fantastic opportunity to take part in cycle training with the London Borough of Richmond Team. The object of the course was to teach the children how to cycle safely on quiet roads, understand the rules of the road and encourage the children to cycle more. The children also learnt how to take care of their bikes. They started off in the playground and later went on the roads with their instructors. They thoroughly enjoyed swapping the classroom for the open roads of Kew, especially in the glorious sunshine. They said they felt the course gave them the confidence to ride on the road and know they were following rules that help them be safe cyclists. Some children were excited to be out on the open road for the first time. They now know how to check their bikes using the ABCD checking their air in tyres, brakes are working, the chain is oiled and they are wearing suitable clothing (no loose clothing or laces). They particularly enjoyed riding as a snake and the challenge of the crossroads. A busy fun week for Year 6.
